Job description:
We are looking for a full (40+ hours/wk) or part (25+ hours/wk) time stock-person to join our family farm. The ideal candidate can work well independently and with others, is honest, responsible, motivated, and cares about their work and our collective resources.
Stock-person works closely with farm owners and other employees to:
Rotationally graze livestock
Supplementally feed livestock daily in winter and inclement weather
Assist with planned stock operations, including: scanning (pregnancy, back fat, loin depth), calving, lambing, shearing, weaning
Assess livestock health and herd behavior (sheep, beef cattle, goats)
Identify, communicate and treat disease as appropriate
Preferred skill set:
Maintaining and setting up permanent & portable electric fence
ATV use (transportation, livestock herding)
Operating tractors, trailers, skidloader, bale processors, and haying equipment
working (sometimes long) flexible hours outside, regardless of weather
Can ergonomically lift 50 pounds
Wants to learn about sheep, cattle, and goat livestock raising, pasturing, herding, and doctoring
Keen observer of pasture health and animal behavior and health
Enjoys working with dogs (herding border collies & livestock guardians)
Can offer and receive constructive feedback
Required qualifications and/or experience:
Positive attitude & enthusiasm
Valid driver’s license
Willingness to learn
Transparent, honest communicator

Experience with sheep, beef cattle and/or goats
Ability to operate stick-shift vehicles, tractors, trailers, skid-loaders

Compensation: DOE, commensurate with experience

Fencing experience
Welding experience
Electric and mechanical machinery repair
